Shepherd Sweet

Great Protectors!  Life Long Friends!

The long-hair gene is recessive, making the long-hair variety rarer. Treatment of the long-hair variation differs across standards; they are accepted under the German and UK Kennel Clubs but are considered a fault in the American Kennel Club.  They may still enter all AKC competitions except  for conformation.  Many of our dogs are all black which is also rare and recessive but accepted by AKC.

The German Shepherd loves the outdoors, but is not an “outside” dog.  They are high energy dogs that enjoy having a job to do.  They need human interaction and to be part of the family. They thrive on companionship, socialization and training.  This is not a breed to be left alone in the yard, isolated away from the family.  They will not thrive living in a kennel, crate, outside doghouse, garage , or chain.  Do not seek a shepherd unless you are seeking a new family member to share your life and home.

Limited  registration does not include breeding rights and usually will require the dog to be spayed  or neutered.  Full registration includes all rights to the dog including breeding and is usually more costly.  Our puppies are sold with limited registration unless approved through interview process.

Frequently Asked Questions

If a dog's genes are for erect ears it will have erect ears at some stage, unless it has sustained an injury to the ears.  The ears will have a tendency to go up and down as a result of teething.  Generally speaking they should stand on their own by 12 months .The result is that at various times the ears can "clothes peg", "tip droop", "bat wing", "flying nun", "left up right down" then swap to "right up left down".

What are long coat shepherds?

The show-strains have been bred with an extremely sloping back that causes poor gait and disease in the hind legs. Working-pedigree lines, such as those in common use as service dogs, generally retain the traditional straight back of the breed and do not suffer these problems to the same extent.

Why do your dogs not have a slope back?
